Hieracium x floribundum is a perennial herbaceous plant in the sunflower family that ranges from 10-36 in. (25-91 cm) tall. The single stem contains a milky sap and has long sparsely scattered bristles. H. x floribundum is native to temperate Asia and Europe.
Foliage
Most of the leaves are basal and range from 1.5-5 in. (3.8-12.7 cm) long. The leaf blades are spatula shaped and pilose.
Flowers
There can be up to 30 flowers per plant. The small flowers are held in a loose corymb. The yellow ray flowers resemble small dandelions and bloom from June to August.
Fruit
The dandelion like seeds have a plume of bristles to aid in dispersal by wind. H. x floribundum also spreads vegetatively by stolons.
Ecological Threat
H. x floribundum outcompetes native species by producing mats of rosettes. It and invades native meadows, prairies, pastures, fields, roadsides and lawns. H. x floribundum prefers sunny locations.
