Title: Lightning Strike Probability Risks
Description: Risk assessment processes for when and where trees could be struck by lightning are complex. Examining probabilities for any one tree being within a charge exchange path requires a set of assumptions, most derived from research on free-standing communication towers. The lightning strike probability formula used here is from Bazelyan & Raizer (2000). In most simple terms, a lightning ground strike probability is dependent upon historic lightning strikes in the area, height of a tree, and presence of any surrounding tall objects.
